Toowoomba trainer Tony Gollan continues to roll on racking up the winners across South East QLD and it should be no surprise to followers of brissyraces.com.au as he is one of our most interviewed trainers on the site. He is very honest and up front about how his horses are travelling and I know a lot of punters enjoy that from the top trainers.
Spirit Of Boom will be flying the flag this weekend when we head to the Gold Coast for Magic Millions day. Tony has always held the opinion that Spirit Of Boom is as good as any other horse he has trained, if not better. He also told the public not to jump of the stallion after a couple of unsuitable runs where things didn’t pan out, so I hope punters took note. He is very happy with the son of Sequalo leading into the weekend. “We are always confident taking him to the races. We just want a good track and a good alley. Very happy with the horse and confident he will run out the 1400m.”
Gollan informed me that Listen Son will now head to the paddock for a three week break in preparation for a Winter carnival tilt. “Last Winter was frustrating as he just couldn’t win a good race. That was off a hard summer, so this year he will be off a soft summer and be a bit fresher in the legs, and we are looking forward to the winter with him.”
Luckily Tony pulled me up as I nearly forgot to ask about Temple Of Boom who was nothing short of outstanding in his last campaign in Melbourne. That campaign may have changed some opinions of a few southerners who simply don’t rate our Queensland horses. He won the Aurie Star beating Rekindled Interest. He also won the Gilgai, and ran a very close third to Sister Madly in the Salinger. It was also a credit to Tony and his staff being able to set this horse for Group races in Melbourne while the team kept nothing up winners in our local area. That is no mean feat and says a lot about a set up’s staff.
“He will probably have a jump out tomorrow in readiness to get to Melbourne again next month. He will then probably trial in a fortnight and his first run will be the Lightning.” Gollan said.
I may sound like a broken record, but in a few years’ time I’m certain Tony Gollan’s name will be at the pointy end of the premiership table year after year, especially as he makes the big move down to Eagle Farm in the next month, which after a settling in period could be the start of something special for the young trainer. He’s a pleasure to deal with, is incredibly knowledgeable and most importantly he’s just a good bloke. He has share’s available in a full brother to Inventory at the moment, but he is at the sales all this week so if you are keen to hook up with him in one of the horses he is looking at simply call Tony on 0409886949 or visit http://www.gollanracing.com.au/
