We head to Doomben for a battle in the Group 1 BTC Cup 1200m on Saturday. All the talk is about Buffering and I will catch up with Rob about him later in the week. The team I wanted to find out about is the brotherly attack on the race with Temple Of Boom and Spirit Of Boom lining up against each other for a rare occasion.
Tony Gollan will run both horses and they do look like two of the horses most likely to trouble the favourite. Temple Of Boom comes off a Group 1 win in the Galaxy where he lumped 57kg. He loves a rain affected track, but any give in the ground and he can be right amongst it. Spirit Of Boom will probably be well over the price of his ability but I think this race may well be the making of him. If he can strike a dry track (which is likely) I would be surprised if he wasn’t around the money somewhere. He is around $31 in early Stradbroke markets, but if he can compete at WFA on Saturday then he would be a serious chance in a race like the Stradbroke at the handicaps.
“They both worked well and very happy with them” is how Tony commented on them this morning. I have to admit he usually gives me a bit more, but I took it in a positive way and I’d expect both to run well. Obviously barriers will be important to both horses when the draw is conducted.
Listen Son was simply a forgive run at the Gold Coast on Saturday. He had performed ok last year I believe on a slow surface, but he did not handle it one bit and it’s best to forget he even went around.
Cariad is a horse that Tony had done a great job with and really turned her form around. Unfortunately we may not see her again as she is likely to be retired. From what I understand she had just come to the end of a long prep and there was no need to keep pushing her after a successful campaign.
Tony’s website will be up in our Trainers page soon. http://www.gollanracing.com.au/
