Herne looking to win hometown cup

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A young trainer who was one of the first to do a “One On One” page with us was Brad Herne, so I thought it would be good to catch up with him and check in with what he has been up to.

It is great to see that Brad has just opened a website for his racing stables and I will put the link at the bottom of the article so you can all check it out. It has stable news, a link to each horse in the stable and things such as his horses available to race with him. (There are three nice types he has at the moment). A lot of trainers are getting sites now and it is always good to put them in your favourites page and check in for the latest every now and then.

Herne has Beartracker in the Lismore Cup (2100m) Thursday who should be decent odds and is always some type of chance in a race like that. “I probably would have liked one more run before we went there. He ran in the QLD cup 3200m, he then had a break and has had the one run back, but he can run well.” Herne commented on it’s chances. He also said that the gate (18) could be of some concern, but is just hoping to have some luck and get some cover.

He also has Bell Academy who has been racing well for a while now but is finding it hard to break into the winners circle again. “I really wanted to get him to the cup (Lismore) but he ran poor two starts ago and we decided not to cart him down to Lismore and ran him at Doomben last Saturday instead where he ran great. On that run he would have nearly won the cup.” Brad said.

Bell Academy will run Saturday week in the metropolitan meeting and is ticking over nicely.

Brad is a northern rivers boy and has a big team heading down for the cup day meeting. I asked what his best chances were to salute, and he feels Three Swallows would be hard to beat in the sprint race down there.

He has done a great job since going out on his own and has a good stable building up to become a good player in the Brisbane arena. Jump on and look at his website, and check out a couple of the two-year olds that he has shares in (he has a good opinion of them). If you are at all interested simply contact him and he’d be happy to have a chat about them.

*More can be known about Brad’s background by checking out our “One On One” page.

**It is also worth noting that we also have a blackbooker who will be hard to beat in the Lismore Cup in SHEZAHOTSHOT.
