My other one that I was only 2 and don’t remember but captivated me as a young bloke was Kiwi 83. Unbelievable

Agony? 1982 when Kingston Town almost managed to hang on to win the cup. Looked the winner till Gurners Lane knocked down several horses to grab a miracle inside run and beat the great horse by a short margin. Talking a little through my pocket but emotional reaction as well because Kingston Town remains my favourite horse since my interest in horse racing began in the 1960s: a true champion in my opinion.
Ecstasy? 12 months later when Kiwi emerged from the pack not long after straightening with a well-sustained and well-timed run to swamp others and win comfortably. Used to work on weights and overlays in those days, and we had Kiwi priced at 5-4F!!! We found as much as 12-1 about his chances, and enjoyed the race very much!!!

Still at high school and asked Mum to put a couple of dollars on Baghdad Note for me. She said she’d take the bet. Paid about $11. Was a lot of money back in 1970 … for her & me.

Hi Gibbo,the year 1977 the horse Reckless , I backed Reckless in the Syd Cup at 50/1 , the Adelaide cup & Brissy Cup & won enough money to take me to Melbourne for the Cup as a 18 yr old for the full week & took 10/1 on Derby day for the Cup only to witness the Cups King & Gold & Black sail past Reckless at the 200 sadly I was on win only. Grrrrr!!
