A very well-known stable on the Sunshine Coast has undergone a few big changes over the last few months, but all is up and running and the winners are already coming in the new set up for Kristie Clark-Peoples.
Kristie is the wife of David Peoples and together they have been in charge of the beautiful set-up of the Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge.
The Main Roads are resuming the property for the new highway passing through so David and Kristie decided it was a good time to downgrade a little but still keep a team of around 10 in work. David has also got a job in the mines now but is home often and does a heap around the place also.
Unfortunately they were not allowed to train in a partnership (which I found strange), but the horses will be racing in Kristie’s name shortly and Gino Teserio is her right-hand man around the stables.
Playaction is obviously the best horse in the stable at the moment and he should step out and be competitive in a couple of weeks’ time when 3rd up. All going to plan they would like him to compete in the Magic Millions stayers cup, a race he finished 2nd in last year. If he happened to win his next couple of starts then a trip to Sydney would not be out of the question.
Heart Of Texas won last Sunday and Kristie feels that it is a nice horse who should measure up and be city grade down the track and it’s a great way to kick off after the new set up with an early winner. Black Monty is another who hasn’t had much luck and Kristie thinks is another who can work its way through the grades, and will show his best when he gets onto a wet track. It was in the 1st race at Eagle Farm today.
Clark-Peoples also told me that they have four Magic Millions eligible horses that come into work shortly and the plan is to target the Magic Millions raceday with all of them. Obviously it’s extremely hard to get them all there in one piece and qualified for races, but if even a couple make it to the day it would be a terrific training effort.
The team also broke in the classy Asian horse Gingerbread Man and still break a few horses in, but that is now also getting wound down and very little will be done with the new set up. They have a couple heading to the ‘breeze-up’ sales next month, and another heading to Asia.
It’s always great to chat with some of the real nice people in racing and Kristie and Dave definitely fall into that category. I’m sure the downsizing will help to have a more relaxed lifestyle with their sons while still enjoying the things they love doing the most – working with the horses and training a heap of winners!
