SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER TOPLINE UPDATE
What a fantastic month September has been, not only have we had the excitement of the return of
the spring feature races of the spring carnival and the quality of racing that comes with it but on a
personal note Topline Thoroughbreds have certainly had a month to remember! September has
seen a return to the track of a number of the Topline graduates from last year’s purchases now as
three year olds making their mark as they work through full racing preparations. It has also been an
exciting month for the fact that is has provided us with an indication of the quality of young horses
that have been selected and syndicated this year, including our first two year old to make it to the
trials this season already in Deflection.
On top of all that September has been the month for Topline Thoroughbreds to claim our very first
winner in Rossarita and furthermore our first metropolitan winner with Amarachi. Both of whom look
to have very bright racing futures ahead.
After two convincing trial performances on her home track, a 1200m maiden at Nowra was
identified as the perfect race for Rossarita to make her debut and she certainly didn’t miss her
opportunity to make her mark. After a lovely ride from jockey Brenton Avdulla to put her into the
race Rossarita still had some work to do in the straight but showed just how big her heart is when
she dug deep to charge home and claim victory on the line, beating home far older and more
seasoned horses than her. The win not only demonstrating her courage but also showed maturity
beyond her position as well as an impressive turn of foot. A great win and certainly one that will be
remembered for a long time.
Amarachi headed to the races on the back of a sharp trial win when she headed to Canterbury for a
1250m three year old fillies maiden. In a field that was saturated in potential from Sydney’s leading
stables, Amarachi started a clear outsider in the betting but didn’t let that phase her when she flew
home down the outside to snatch victory from her more favoured rivals in the shadows of the
winning post. A very impressive victory in her first run back this preparation but what made it all the
more exciting was the fact that she showed she still has plenty of improvement in her before we
really start to see what she is capable of.
September was also the platform for Ready To Fly’s first full racing preparation and he was unlucky
not to claim victory himself when narrowly beaten at Goulburn showing his owners a glimpse of the
talent that he has in store. Sakhero is also well and truly into his first full racing preparation where
he has shown continued improvement at each of his starts and we are very confident that it won’t
be too long before we see these boys break through to claim their first wins.
We would like to extend a big congratulations to the owners of both Rossarita and Amarachi for
their wins this month and also like to thank Grahame and his staff, as well as Brenton who have put
the effort in to provide Topline with such fantastic results in such a short time.
AMARACHI (Lonhro / Our Lady Grace filly)
Amarachi has pulled up well from her first up win and has taken natural improvement from the run.
Grahame has nominated her for a 3yo fillies benchmark 70 handicap over 1200m at Warwick Farm
on Wednesday 10th October.
MAKE A CHOICE (Choisir / Western Passage filly)
Make A Choice had her first official trial at Randwick this week where she showed great gate speed
and acceleration to finish the trial off strongly under a comfortable hold. Grahame will now decide
whether she requires an additional trial or to send her straight to the races.
READY TO FLY (More Than Ready / Joy Of Flight gelding)
Ready To Fly had a strong first full racing campaign where he showed glimpses of the ability that
he possesses and was unlucky not to notch up his first win. He has been sent to the paddock for a
well-earned rest and no doubt he will be a much stronger and more focused horse when he returns
next preparation.
ROSSARITA (Testa Rossa / La Favorita filly)
Rossarita turned in a fantastic performance to break her maiden status on debut and backed it up
with a tough performance at Wyong when jumping up in class, to narrowly miss out on a place
second up. Rossarita unfortunately jarred up on the hard surface and has since gone for a spell to
allow her time to develop further.
SAKHERO (Danzero / Sakhalin gelding)
Sakhero has continued to develop and improve over in his last couple of starts and at this stage
Grahame will look to send him to a 1900m 3yo maiden at Canterbury on the 17th October. The
added distance and the addition of a set of blinkers will further Sakhero s cause next start.
ZINEDINE (Zizou / Elclectus filly)
Zinedine remains in the paddock and is approximately half way through her recuperation. She will
have another month or so in the paddock at which time she will be assessed for a possible return.
MISS FEARLESS (Snitzel / Uneasy filly)
Miss Fearless has shown plenty of potential in her recent time in the stable and had worked all the
way through to the trial stage of her first preparation. She has since gone to the paddock to allow
her to further develop.
OCTARAJA (Lonhro / Lady Helissio filly)
Now officially named, Octaraja has been making big progress during her current preparation and
will shortly be ready for a trial. An outstanding type, she is physically very forward and has been
impressive in her early work.
DEFLECTION (Choisir / Baffled colt)
Deflection progressed right through to a trial in his first preparation where he turned in a solid
performance against a very sharp field of juveniles. He has since returned to the paddock for a well
earned break to give him further time to mature. We can’t wait for his return to work.
QUARTZITE (Exceed And Excel / Rondavel colt)
This colt continues to improve in his current preparation and really looks to be a jump and run type.
It shouldn’t be too long before we see this fella at the trials and possibly stepping out to the races.
Unnamed (Northern Meteor / Sicile filly)
This filly has been working through her grades in at Grahame’s Randwick stables and continues to
develop into a lovely forward type. She has been working at three quarter pace and quickening over
the final 400m of her track gallops. We look forward to seeing her at the trials shortly.
