Weekend on ‘The Punt’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Couple of best bets and the RACING.COM $5000 quaddie hopefully helped punters last week. Not as confident this week for different reasons. Some are too short, but overall I just think 4-5 races are just too even and luck in running will be the main factor in races. For that reason it’s not a lot of bets for me.

NEW PART to ‘THE PUNT’:

I want to start the article each week with ‘THE BEST OVER $20’. It might not be in my top couple of numbers in that race but I want to have one for punters each week that I think is the best chance of anything $20+. This week is very tough but I think CHARMMEBABY $26/$6 in race 7 is a winning hope in a ridiculously even race, and she’s big priced horse this week.

The GCTC are back this week! We will be on a wet track but improving all the time. I’ve done the form on a genuine SOFT track. There is something happening every week at the GCTC so be sure to check out functions when you head to the GIBBOS TIPS page.

A glimpse of what the previews at RDC look like

Race 9:

2-GYPSY GODDESS

12-ARAVENE

11-BELLE SAVOIR

14-SMIRK

1-BARB RAIDER

Real issue here is the tempo. There doesn’t look like a lot of tempo and it might play into the hands of the leaders. GIN MARTINI and BARB RAIDER will both push forward and be in the first four somewhere (depending on how many change their tactics). Both have been nice and solid all preps. BARB RAIDER is on the back-up from winning the G2 Roses. Williams sticks and only has to run up to that effort. GIN MARTINI was 4th last week. While a lot of these have been up a long time, a horse like BELLE SAVOIR has only had the four runs this prep and it has panned out beautifully. A close up 2nd in the Roses and then a 7-day back up for her grand final. With some luck from the gate she can win for sure. SMIRK was a very similar run to BELLE SAVOIR last week and draws one gate inside her. Very little between them. The other one with a sense of timing is ARAVENE who has improved sharply this prep and was a dominant winner against a few of these in Sydney a fortnight ago. It was only a bm72 but she bolted in and is a nice big Fastnet Rock filly. GYPSY GODDESS has been the fav all along, but what do they do from the gate? She has the ability to roll forward but I’m sure she’s a better horse when they save her up for the last shot at them. Will need a good ride but she has the class to get over the top of them all late with her turn of foot.
